Coaches

Here at GENESIS Basketball our coaches set us apart from the rest of the programs in the city. All of our coaches have college basketball experience either as a player or coach and know what it takes to be successful both on and off the court. We truly believe that it is our responsibility as coaches to mentor our players and help navigate them through the many ups and downs of being a teen. How we act as mentors off the court is just as important as being on the bench, our actions transcend the hardwood and that is a message we preach to all players.

Fabian Warner

Fabian completed his playing career with the SAIT Trojans, where he was a two-year team captain and starting forward for a team that never finished lower then 3rd in the conference, including finishing second in the country in the 2010 national final. He won numerous awards including the SAIT Trojan award, ACAC defensive player of the year and League First Team All-Star awards. He has led the ACAC in blocks over his career and has always been the anchor of SAITs defence. He has helped coach many teams over his career and has found a home with Genesis. This will be his third year with Genesis Basketball.

Jamie McLeod

Jamie recently completed his playing career with the University of Calgary Dinos, where he was a two-year team captain and starting point guard for a team that won the Canada West Championship in 2009 and made consecutive National Final Four appearances in 2009 and 2010. He spent the first three seasons of his playing career with the SAIT Trojans, where he won multiple academic and athletic awards, including back-to-back league First Team All-Star Awards, the Calgary Herald Community Leadership Award, and the SAIT Male Athlete of the Year Award. Throughout his career, Jamie was a five-time Academic All-Canadian, including two years enrolled in the Masters of Business Administration program at the University of Calgary. This is his fourth year coaching with Genesis Basketball.

Joseph Baptie

Joe has played basketball in the Calgary area for a number of years.  While he did not play high school basketball, was able to work hard and get his skill level up to a high end.  Through his perseverance, he was able to generate offers from numerous Universities across Canada.

Joe has been coaching basketball at the club and community levels for over 10 years.  He is a fully certified level 1 NCCP coach with his level 2 certification.  He started at the community level, winning numerous titles with boys and girls, having also coached at the Junior High school level.  Most recently he is the head coach for the Crescent Heights Junior boys team, and have won back to back championships.  Joe is also entering his second year with the Genesis Basketball Club, coaching high level players.  He is a defensive minded coach, who believes in having the players learn both basketball and life skills, using the teachings of John Wooden (UCLA) and Dean Smith (UNC) as his guides/mentors.

Dave Lee

Dave Lee played high school at Central Memorial, helping lead their division 2 team to Provincials. He then played four years of post secondary basketball at Mount Royal, Capilano and was co-captain at SAIT for two years. Dave was an impact player at every college he played for and was in conference all star conversation every year. Starting in 2000, Dave has coached as an assistant to Romel Raffin at Central Memorial, and has coached Genesis boys of all ages since co-founding the club in 2006. He has helped many players reach their basketball goals and gone out of his way to tutor and mentor student athletes to maximize their potential in the classroom.

Eddie Richardson III

Eddie stresses the fundamental values of hard work, dedication, team mentality and commitment to excellence.  As a player, Eddie works to improve his game any chance he can.  He understands the difference between being a mediocre and impact player and what it takes to get there.  He has played with and against players at the national level, as well as professionals in the NBA and European leagues.  With the help of his coaches and team mates, he was honoured as a 3 time ACAC all star, 3 time CCAA All Canadian, CCAA National Basketball Player of the Year, CCAA Athlete of the Year and many other awards throughout his collegiate career.  He declined many offers to play professional basketball in Europe for career aspirations in Calgary while focusing on his dream of helping younger players reach their basketball goals and maximize their potential.

After graduating, Eddie was an assistant coach with the SAIT Trojans for a year before co-founding Genesis. Genesis Basketball has been in existence since 2006, and is one of the city's most elite programs.  In addition to coaching and running Genesis, Eddie has found the time to run clinics at the grassroots level at various Calgary junior and senior high schools. Eddie has personally helped develop, train, and mentor players that have gone on to be CIS and CCAA All Stars, All-Canadians, Academic All- Canadians , Players of the Year, NCAA athletes, and European Semi-pro Players.
