Spring League Tryouts 2013
In the spring, starting after the High School season has finished, we run a number of teams at the U13, U15 and U17 levels.
The number of teams at each level depends on those present at tryouts. All teams participate in various leagues and tournaments in Calgary with some travelling around the country and into the U.S.A. During the spring our focus is to develop our players weaknesses and challenge them to improve their strengths. We build our teams on what's best for the individual player and not what's convenient to our program. Throughout the spring we help connect our players with college and university coaches across the country and in the United states to help them follow their basketball ambitions. Post secondary basketball is not every players ambition, we understand that and wont pressure our players otherwise. Our tournament schedule is based on each individual team and is finalized once tryouts are completed.
During the fall (September-November), we run a high-school prep league for any grade 10, 11 and 12 players as well an elite basketball development academy for our younger grade 4 to 9 ballers.
The Genesis Prep League is the most exciting, unique and challenging program in the city. This 3 month fall program was developed to prepare our players to be physically and mentally ready for their upcoming high school basketball season. We help expand their strengths while at the same time work on developing their weaknesses so they can become the most complete basketball player as possible. The best thing about this league is that it embodies every player's dream in that it is modeled after the NBA. Players feel the excitement throughout the process; all the way from the draft, playoffs, league awards and onto the championship. We will have 8 teams of 10 players maximum (a total of 80 ballers) with each team having at least 1 practice and 2 games a week. The league will start with a Combine Day (beginning of September) where all players will showcase their skills in front of coaches. That night 80 players will be selected (at an actual draft) and placed onto the 8 different teams. All players will be notified accordingly thereafter of all necessary information. This is a great chance for players to get individual time with quality coaches as well as work on their specific role that they will be filling in high school. The players will be getting development on the court thru games and practices as well as strength and conditioning programs so they can be the best player possible when high school tryouts start in late November.
Our development academy focuses on core skills and fundamentals that will help our younger players improve their game. We work on all facets of their game from shooting and dribbling all the way to offensive and defensive concepts. We encourage our players to continue playing community basketball so we try our best to accommodate CMBA by having our academy on off days. We have most of our coaches in the gym to maximize player to coach ratio so our players get the most training and feedback on their games as possible. The program runs from September until February so our players get to maximize their learning before our spring program starts.
